The overriding image from today's Olympic torch relay through London was of a pro-Tibetan protestor attempting to wrestle the torch from ex-Blue Peter presenter, Konnie Huq, in West London. What struck me on watching this footage was the way in which Huq, who had been jogging, stopped for some reason, looked right and then a protestor coincidentally managed to make a grab for the Olympic torch. It's as if she knew he was going to be precisely there and it had been planned for the cameras so that Konnie Huq would once again be talked about.
Could this have been staged? Huq is, after all, politically ambitious - she received a smack on the wrist from the BBC last August for exhibiting bias by taking part in a press conference with Bed Ken (who had his arm around her: not a good idea given what we now know about Lecherous Livingstone) and she is known to be close to Gordon Brown, from whom she received a tribute in January when she finally left Blue Peter.
Norfolk Blogger has pointed out what a gutless hypocrite Huq is. I cannot help but wonder whether the whole attempted-grab-of-the-torch incident was staged simply to get Huq off the hook (if you pardon the phraseology) - she had jeopardized her trendy leftist credentials by taking part in the torch relay and yet by manfully wrestling with a protestor, she got the chance to tell the watching public on live television that she hated the Chinese for their human rights atrocities as much as everyone else does. She comes out smelling of roses and the name Konnie Huq gets embedded even further in our minds for when her agents show programme executives polling results that will reveal Huq is very famous, very well liked and therefore deserves a massive contract on grown-up TV.
Wouldn't it be interesting to probe into this episode a little further..?

She explained on TV last week that some of her friends would actually be protesting along the route ????
I will be fascinated to know the name of the protestor and his association, if any, with Konnie Huq...
She stopped because the Police escort stopped. He then made his move. It's the tightness of the BBC shot that makes it look likes she just stops, if they'd zoomed out a bit you'd see the people in front of her stop first.
After that the Chinese security team started circling the bearers during the changeover. I guess they worked out that was the easiest time for people to cause trouble.
PS: like your new design.
